Why YouTube red is to expensive?

Why does YouTube Red cost so much?
Recently, I was seriously debating purchasing YouTube Red, mostly for the background play feature. I was shocked to learn that it just $10 each month! I anticipated it would cost around $5 or $6. I don't see why it isn't less expensive to be more appealing given that the majority of people already block ads. Even the opportunity to pay for blocks in advance to make a small savings is not available. Is there anything I'm overlooking or perhaps some other features that it has that make it reasonable?
